The History of AlleghenySST™
At the turn of the twentieth century, Tom Mistick, Sr. founded his home builder business in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the first half century, he established a solid reputation as a hard-working, salt-of-the-earth home builder. In the late 1960's, his sons expanded the business into the commercial construction market as a general contracting firm.
This new endeavor flourished over the next decade. The commercial work was so successful that - in the late 1970's - it was necessary to establish a separate architectural woodworking company to keep up with the demand for custom millwork. Thus, Allegheny Millwork, Inc. was created.
About the same time, a new product - "solid surface" - was emerging in the construction industry. Allegheny Millwork began offering solid surface as part of its millwork package. Through the 1980's and early 1990's, Allegheny Millwork grew into a well-respected, high-end woodworking company.
Then in 1993 Russ Berry began his tenure with Allegheny Millwork as their executive vice president. In addition to his expertise in architectural woodwork, he was highly proficient in the field of solid surface fabrication and installation. And in 1997, through Russ's leadership and foresight, Allegheny Millwork was looking to diversify their custom millwork business. Russ offered his services, moved his family to Hanover, Pennsylvania and started Allegheny Solid Surface Technologies™.
Our doors opened for business on March 1, 1998. Since that day, our goal has been to break from the mold of residential fabrication and develop a solid surface company geared toward creating solutions and servicing the needs of the modern day commercial market.
Today, we are a multi-million dollar company servicing most of the eastern seaboard. Securely grounded in our strong heritage, we look forward to the bright future of Allegheny Solid Surface Technologies™!
